The people behind the curtain

A company with
a restless streak.

Theater Artists Olympia makes room for the unexpected.

Founded in 2003, TAO is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an appetite for original writing, inventive interpretations, and underrepresented stories. Its description of its work, “untamed theatre,” is a useful clue to its artistic personality.

Oly Theater is the venue. Theater Artists Olympia is its resident company. The two share a home and an official website, while the stage also welcomes work beyond TAO’s own productions.

A continuing Olympia story

2003

An independent beginning

TAO starts as a traveling company, later finding a home at the Midnight Sun Performance Space.

Along the way

A stage for local voices

Oly Theater’s earlier home was at Capital Mall. TAO’s An Improbable Peck of Plays, with Northwest Playwrights Alliance, brings local writers, actors, and directors together.

April 2026

Back in the heart of town

A former dance studio becomes a 75-seat black-box theater. Anna Considers Mars opens the new space on April 24.

For artists & presenters

Your idea.
A live audience.

Start a conversation about the room.

Oly Theater’s new home is intended to serve other performers and groups alongside TAO. Local reporting describes a community stage supported in part by Inspire Olympia.

Tell the team what you’re making and what you need. Dates, rental rates, staffing, equipment, permitted uses, and the right seating arrangement need to be confirmed directly.
